Deathlifts, well with the heat, but really it is just a deadlift.

Tough but great workout tonight. Hottest one of the year so far. I was very motivated for tonight, as I wasn't sure if I was going to get to do the Gus as they scheaduled an event that weekend. But it seems my new boss is gonna try her hardest to let me have it off. So my spirits were high.

Good day overall. Have to work overtime tonight so I was hoping not to push it too hard, still debating if I did or not.

Strongman Sunday

This workout started like shit, I was sore as hell and tired but once I got past my first lift things went better.

Push Presses

210 x 6 just awful, this should have been at least 8 reps if not 9 or 10. Bad days happen, I get over it.

Farmers Walks
265 per hand x 3 sets of 80 feet, was gonna do 4 sets but I dropped the farmers on the 3rd set and figured I would take it as a sign to quit.

550lbs x 15 reps PR, should have went for more reps but a PR is a PR.

250 and 200 keg x 80' each x 2 sets of wanting to die.

Overall it was a good day, and I feel right on track. But there is a possibility that I might not get to compete, if that happens so be it, it will piss me off but its life.

Tonight called for a deadlifts for a sets of 8 - 10 reps. I have been doing all my deadlifts dead stop each rep, this makes me a lot harder and I hope will carry over to a bigger deadlift this year.

Good lower body day

Wasn't sure how today's workout was gonna go, I got a lot of sleep and ate a lot of food hoping to speed up some recovery. Decided just to do a nice 3 reps on the squat. Decided on around 90ish percent of what I did last month.

Been a rough week, sleep has been horrible, and work has been busy. I don't have a hard job, but it does wear me down when I am working open to closes. Money has been good though, so that I appreciate.

deadlift 134lbs x 3 reps and then 150lbs x 1 for an all time PR.

Thoughts on my training, what I plan on doing this year, and my goals.

So far this year my training seems spot on. I am using a combination of the Cube method and 5/3/1. I like the cube for my squat and deadlift but I know how to make my overhead work better with 5/3/1. So far I think its working, I have got some log PRs as of late and that is always good. My deadlift and squat are coming back and I hope to be getting the numbers I was hitting last year within the next couple of months.

I keep fighting the urge to want to lose weight, in reality this is fucking stupid. Some days I let what normal people think get in my head. Fuck them, I can be strong and still be in good cardio shape. Granted I could be eating healthier, but I am enjoying myself.

Right now I am pretty sure I know most of my strengths and weaknesses. I still have good loading ability, good foot speed on moving events. But my weaknesses are my legs, they need lots of work and they are what is giving out on me in the car deadlift, keg medley, and loading events for reps. But my squats are moving up, and I am hitting PRs weekly on the car DL, so things are on the right track.

3. Omaha Open Powerlifting meet

Goals for each meet :
Gus:
Top 3 in my weight class
Only real goal here.

Mac Games:
Top 3 in my class
again same goal

Omaha Open:
400+ shirted bench
600+ deadlift

Of these 3 the Omaha Open will be the hardest as I don't really train my bench and I will have to learn the shirt again.


Other Goals I have for this year.
1.Load my bitch of a 400# stone to 48"
2.300# press, this is something I have been chasing for a long time and there is no reason I shouldn't have gotten by now.
3.Bench 350 close grip, this will actually require me to bench more often.
4. Strict Press my bodyweight, I have come close, so close to this.
5. Deadlift over 600#s, I don't care if it is 601 lbs I will be happy with anything over 600 lbs.
6. Squat 400 lbs for reps, again something I should have been doing a long time ago.
I will probably add more things throughout the year, but for right now these are things I want to concentrate on.

Overall I felt shitty today, was very sore from Tuesday, but I had a number in mind today and I wanted to get it.

Got home and was really lacking motivation to train, so I said "Fuck this I am gonna go over and train at Omaha Barbell." This turned out to be a smart move.

Deadlift night, and proud husband and father

Worked out with Josh, and my daughter and my wife. It was really a great night of lifting, I think having some nice weather lifted up my spirits.

405 x 8 deadstop each rep and all hook gripped. These were pretty easy, only problem I had was my damn belt kept slipping in the back, so I probably wasn't pushing my abs out as hard as I should.

My wife did great tonight deadlift 225 x 3 super easy and doing them double overhand, not to brag but she definitely has an above average grip, not elite but way above average. My daughter did great tonight setting a 5 rep PR on the bench with 54lbs and a 5 rep PR on the hack lift with 115lbs.

Event training and such

It snowed yet again, granted now it is all melted but it wasn't earlier so we couldn't really do much outside without risking falling on our asses.

I started out doing push jerks but they hurt my knees too much, so I switched to push presses

Strongman day

Decided to do a test day for the events for the Gus Lohman. Overall I am happy with how things went, some good some bad, but I know what I need to work on.

Log Press
worked up to a very hard 240lbs x 1 this was supposed to be clean and press each rep for 60 sec which I was hoping to get 3 or 4. Oh well I think I am gonna just concentrate all my pressing on the log over the next 12 weeks.

Once I got it picked up I moved pretty fast, so that is good. Good to know all my grip work is helping.

500lbs x 20 reps in a minute, this has got to be a PR, I hate the Car Deadlift and I really suck at it, this really took all the fortitude I have to finish this. I would like to push this up to 30 reps in a minute by contest time.

Upperbody beatdown

Wasn't really sure what to expect with tonight session, I felt beat to hell and tired, but I knew I would be more mad at myself if I hadn't lifted. Luckily my daughter and wife were on fire so that gave me motivation.

I decided I am going to use the swiss bar for a little while for my secondary pressing day.  It is hard to press with and almost mimics the log. I unstable the whole, which is always how I feel with the log.

Sunday training

I was definitely in a down and out mood yesterday, did my best to joke around and attempt to have fun today. For the most part I did, had some good laughs and after looking back over my training I actually got some decent work in.

What leg work I can do.

For one of the 1st times in a long time, I am scared. My back is getting better but I honestly don't know what is wrong. I need to see a specialist soon. Things were so on track and then this happened. I fucking hate it. Don't get me wrong I am still able to do things, but some days I don't know if what I am doing is a good idea or not. I just feel like I am in a dark place and can't see the light to get out. It is depressing as hell, and it makes it hard for me to be around anyone. I am doing my best to do the right things to let myself heal, but its not easy. Anyway here is what I did yesterday.

Not much of a strongman

Todays workout was a whole steaming pile of horseshit! Granted it is my own fault, I figured hey I am feeling a lot better on Friday might as well squat for some decent reps. Turns out this wasn't a good idea at all, as I fucking hurt today.

After some talking with my training partners it is obvious that my squat needs a lot of work and it is something that I really need to work and hammer down on. I am going back to 531 for a while and will go from there and see where it takes me.

So I did some deadlift on sunday, and I can tell I am healing. So I decided just to push things a little harder today. Wore a tighter belt and it made it hard to get in position but it really helped keep pressure on my lower back and have no pain( well a lot less).
